The Shipibo-Konibo and Our Learning
The Shipibo-Konibo are an Indigenous people of the Peruvian Amazon, with communities in the Ucayali region and other parts of Peru. Their living culture includes their language, deep knowledge of the natural world, and artistic traditions such as kené, a traditional design system connected to their worldview.
Skybridge’s ceremonial approach is informed by Shipibo traditions through ongoing learning and relationships with teachers in Peru. We work and train with Shipibo people in Peru. Our teacher, Mark Lorello Jr., has spent many years learning within these traditions and continues his study there. Summer continues her apprenticeship under Mark and has also participated in ceremony, plant dietas, and study in Peru. We approach this learning with respect, humility, and gratitude for the teachers who have shared it.
